Breakfast raspberry oats

With all this time in isolation, I thought there is no better time than to try out my own recipes while at home. When I was still commuting into work, my go to breakfast was overnight oats of varying flavours, however now that I have all the time in the world in the mornings now I thought I would try and have hot oats. Something pretty foreign to me!

Today I made Raspberry oats. They consisted of:

  • 2/3 of a cup of oats
  • half a cup of frozen raspberries
  • tablespoon of chia seeds
  • maple syrup (or other sweet syrup) to taste

I added the oats to some water and brought it to a boil. I added about a cup and a half of water to cook it, and then added about half a cup more to make it a bit more runny.  You can add as much or as little water as needed to get the desired consistency. Do not though that it does tend to thicken up quite a bit when left to stand so do think of that. If it does get too stiff for you, adding some soya milk (or other milk alternative) will help it become a bit more creamy without making it taste too watery.

My breakfast took about 3 minutes to cook, so it was really no time at all! I also found that these kept me going for the majority of the day and I wasn’t really hungry again until dinner time. Baring in mind that this was a day full of chores, housework and even a little 30 minute run!

In hindsight, I probably made way too many oats so maybe next time I’ll probably only use about 1/3 cup of oats instead. I also have a super sweet tooth so the amount of syrup I used will probably cause sugar shock in most other people.

Do you guys have any good oat recipes I could try out? Let me know in the comments and I’ll start experimenting myself! Stay safe everyone and if you have any other breakfast recipes for me to try, please let me know.
